Biography

Hugo Alexandre Ferreira has degrees in medicine and in engineering physics and a PhD in physics, namely in nanotechnology and biosensors. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon chairing and teaching topics ranging from Mechanisms of Disease, Histology and Clinical Biochemistry to Medical Devices and Digital Health, and to Nanotechnology, Robotics, Prosthetics and Regenerative Medicine.

He also serves as the coordinator of the doctoral programme on Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics at the faculty. He in is also a senior researcher at the Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering, investigating a range of topics on neurosciences, oncology, lung, cardio and vascular physiology, especially focusing on the development of clinical and non-clinical applications such as for sports, marketing, and arts. Finally, he has been spinning off comercial projects from his research, serving or having served in C-level positions and mentoring and advising innovative entrepreneurs and companies.
