Ana Margarida Mota, PhD student of Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics and researcher at IBEB, was awarded the best student paper award at the international conference VIPIMAGE 2015 held in Tenerife from 19 to 21 this month. The work presented was entitled “An iterative algorithm for Total Variation minimization in DBT imaging” and shows how can be optimized the radiation dose and image quality in breast tomosynthesis. The study was conducted at IBEB under the project funded by FCT entitled “Improvement of image quality and dose reduction in digital breast tomosynthesis using statistical image reconstruction algorithms” (PTDC / BBB-IMG / 3310 / 2012) and had as co-authors IBEB’s investigators Nuno Oliveira, Nuno Matela and Pedro Almeida.
