Biography
Pedro Delgado, born in 1998, completed his Integrated Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics in March 2023 at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL). In 2019, he completed a three-month internship at the Julius Wolff Institute for Biomechanics and Musculoskeletal Regeneration in Berlin, where he studied and analyzed the rehabilitation of patients with anterior cruciate ligament ruptures using a motion capture system. In his master’s dissertation, carried out at the Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering (IBEB) and in collaboration with one of the top teams in the Portuguese football league, Pedro was engaged in the biomechanical analysis of under-21 footballers. He carried out kinematic and electromyographic analyses of the performance of Direct Free Kicks, obtaining results of both academic interest and of practical interest for the institution. In September 2023, he enrolled in the PhD program in Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics at FCUL. His doctoral project is being developed in partnership with Sporting Clube de Portugal and aims to assess how cognitive processes and brain activity dynamics develop in young elite footballers, through the use of electroencephalography and the performance of cognitive tasks. The merit of the project was recognized by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), which awarded him a four-year scholarship for his doctorate.
