3BAtwin – Bone, Brain, Breast and Axillary Medical Microwave Imaging Twinning – is a European Union Twinning Project coordinated by FCiências. ID/CIÊNCIAS-ULISBOA. The project aims to capacitate FC.ID/CIENCIAS with the various specific/fine knowledge and tools to accelerate the transition of Medical Microwave Imaging (MMWI) from the research bench to the patient bedside. This will be achieved by further establishing a solid collaboration with project partners: University of Galway (GALWAY), in Ireland, and Politecnico di Torino (POLITO) in Italy.
3BAtwin launched on September 1, 2024, and the Kick-Off Meeting (KOM) took place on October 2-3 at Instituto de Biofísica e Engenharia Biomédica in Lisbon, with 29 participants (25 in-person and 4 online), including researchers, administrators, and students from FC. ID/CIENCIAS, GALWAY, and POLITO.
The KOM started with an overview of the project, outlining its work packages, assigning leaders, and setting key dates for the next three years. To encourage team bonding, an icebreaker activity and a social dinner were held. Participants visited the IBEB laboratories, and on the second day, representatives from FC.ID/CIENCIAS, GALWAY, and POLITO presented their research. The meeting concluded with a visit to TecLabs, the CIÊNCIAS incubator, to learn about its innovation ecosystem.
