Biography
Tânia Ferreira-Gonçalves holds an Integrated Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics with profile in Clinical Engineering and Medical Instrumentation, from Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade de Lisboa since 2018 and a PhD degree in Pharmacy, profile in Pharmaceutical Technology since 2024, at Faculdade de Farmácia, Universidade de Lisboa.
During Bachelor, Tânia went on a short Summer Internship at Max-Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, in Stuttgart, working on the Lab-in-a-tube and Nanorobotic Biosensors Group supervised by Dr. Samuel Sánchez, where she assisted on ongoing projects involving the fabrication and observation of tubular micro- and nanomotors for environmental and biological applications. Later, on her final year of the Master ‘s degree Tânia carried out a ten-month internship at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia, in the Smart Nano-Bio-Devices group, supervised by Dr. Samuel Sánchez. There she worked on the preparation, characterization, and multi-functionalization of micro and nano silica-based half-coated with gold Janus motors, aiming at functionalizing the two faces of the Janus particles with two different proteins, for possible biomedical applications.
Currently, Tânia is an Invited Assistant Professor at the Physics Department from the Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade de Lisboa and is continuing the work started during her PhD involving the synthesis, characterization, and application of gold nanoparticles photoactivated through near infrared (NIR) laser for photothermal therapy of superficial and non-metastasized breast tumors.
