She has 8 years of research experience on the topic of MWI, having completed a PhD and two post-doctoral contract in the area of classification of breast tumours with MWI. She currently is a post-doctoral researcher affiliated with the Instituto de Biofísica e Engenharia Biomédica, Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade de Lisboa (Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Science, University of Lisbon, IBEB-FCUL), Portugal, and the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, University of Oxford, United Kingdom. She is also an Invited Assistant Professor in FCUL, Portugal. Moreover, she is the chair for COST Action TD1301 entitled “Development of a European-based Collaborative Network to Accelerate Technological, Clinical and Commercialisation Progress in the Area of Medical Microwave Imaging (TD1301)”, and coordinating a group of over 200 researchers, R&D engineers and clinicians from 29 countries. She holds a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the National University of Ireland Galway, NUIG (2011), and an Integrated Masters in Biomedical Engineering from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Faculty of Science and Technology, New University of Lisbon).
She has secured several research funding schemes since 2005, most significantly FP7 Marie Curie Intra European Fellowship. Previous work experience includes being a research assistant, and holding regular seminars, in Portuguese, Irish, Chinese and Canadian universities. She was a lecturer for different courses in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and in Biomedical Engineering degrees. Also, she has supervised 4 undergraduate students, 6 Master students and 1 PhD student, she has also been a mentor for 1 researcher and 2 PhD students, regarding several medical imaging techniques.
Overall, she has published 15 journal papers in high Impact Factor journals and 24 conference papers. She is also an editor and author for a book in the Springer book series in Biological and Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering, entitled “An Introduction to Microwave Imaging for Breast Cancer Detection”, which is in press. She co-authored with 48 international researchers and, according to Google Scholar, her published work has had 233 total citations (109 citations excluding self-citations) since 2007. She has participated in 14 conferences since 2008.
