Rafaella Coelho graduated in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Aveiro (2021) and completed her Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Beira Interior (2024). Her dissertation focused on the role of the STEAP1 protein in prostate cancer and its impact on chemotherapy response. From February to July 2024, she joined the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA), where her research focused on post-replicative replication stress at cancer telomeres. Later, at the Health Sciences Research Centre (CICS-UBI), she studied the effects of the environmental contaminant BDE99 on prostate cancer cells.

She is currently a first-year Ph.D. student in Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics, working on her thesis entitled “Study of dielectric properties of biological tissue and tissue mimicking materials for optimal development of electromagnetic-based medical devices”.
