IBEB’s researchers and students organised the 1st Edition of the International Conference on Medical Microwave Imaging Applications (ICMWIA), within the 3BAtwin project, which is coordinated by FCiências.ID and CIÊNCIAS. The conference was held between the 3rd and the 5th of February 2026 and counted with 58 attendees, from 11 countries and of 16 different nationalities.
Professors and IBEB’s researchers Raquel Conceição and Daniela Godinho were the conference chairs, and Brígida Ferreira was part of the Technical Programme Committee. Professor Sofia Fernandes and PhD students Henrique Lopes, Rafaella Coelho, Muhammad Shaheer Mirza, Ana Catarina Pelicano and Maria Gonçalves were also part of the local organising committee.
The conference included 2 keynote presentations, 3 special sessions – which included a discussion session, a round-table session with patient advocate group representatives and an IEEE talk for young professionals –, 2 tutorials, a visit to 2 laboratories in satellite areas, and the presentation of 22 scientific papers, including some of the work developed within IBEB:
- Ana Catarina Pelicano and Maria Gonçalves presented the paper “Comprehensive Repository of MRI-derived Breast Models for Microwave Imaging Research“
- Henrique Lopes presented the paper “Repeatability in Medical Microwave Imaging: Mapping Current Approaches“
- Daniela Godinho presented the paper “Initial Assessment of a Patient Study Using a Breast Microwave Imaging Prototype“
The 2nd edition of the conference is planned for the 2nd to the 4th of February 2027. Information will be available soon in the conference website.
