Biografia
João M. P. Coelho licenciou-se em Engenharia Física e de Materiais em 1992 pela Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Portugal) e doutorou-se em Engenharia Física pela Universidade Técnica de Lisboa em 2003.
Foi investigador no INETI, Lisboa (1991-2009) e desde 2009 é investigador na Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, FCUL, onde é membro integrado e vice-coordenador (desde 2018) do Instituto de Biofísica e Engenharia Biomédica (IBEB). Também colabora com o Instituto de Astrofísica e Ciências Espaciais (IA). Os seus interesses de investigação incluem a interação da radiação laser com a matéria, fototerapia, engenharia biomédica, desenho óptico e metrologia óptica. Nestas áreas tem participado, e participa, em vários projetos de investigação nacionais e internacionais, tendo publicado mais de 100 artigos em revistas e resumos de conferências, sendo ainda coautor de vários capítulos em livros.
Em 1996 recebeu o terceiro lugar no Prémio Inovação Jovem Engenheiro 1996 atribuído pela Ordem dos Engenheiros. Em 2017 ele recebeu o prémio “SET Panel Excellence Award”, pela sua contribuição para o “SET 198 Task Group – Visible Laser Dazzle Effects and Protection” (NATO, 2017) e, relacionado com esta atividade, em 2019 recebeu o “STO Scientific Achievement Award 2019, SET-198 Task Group on Visible Laser Dazzle – Effects and Protection”, da “Science and Technology Organization” (NATO 2019). É membro da Sociedade Portuguesa de Óptica e Fotónica (SPOF) e da Sociedade Portuguesa Interdisciplinar do Laser Médico (SPILM).
