Nichal Gentilal was born in Lisbon in 1995. In October 2018, he concluded his masters in Biophysical and Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL).
During his bachelors, he did an internship at Hospital da Luz (Lisbon), at the oncology department, where he studied the reproducibility of an optical surface scanning system used for patient positioning verification in external radiotherapy. His masters’ thesis was done at the Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering (IBEB) and it was focused on biological tissue heating during Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) therapy. After his graduation, he was a research fellow at the same Institute, and he continued to develop the work he started during his thesis.
In March 2019 he started his PhD in Biomedical and Biophysical Engineering at IBEB, under the supervision of Dr. Pedro Cavaleiro Miranda, with the intention of optimizing the electric field distribution during TTFields, based on the results of computational models, considering the thermal impact of this therapy in patient’s life.
